The first step in beginning to form a plan is to always remember the mission. At conVerge we believe that where the Church has gotten in trouble in answering the question of what we ought to be doing is that we seem to always forget about the mission. If you forget the reason that you are doing something, other inadequate reasons quickly fill the void. All of a sudden Christianity becomes about making yourself a better person, sinning less, or social action. Let us be very clear, all these things are good things. But they are not the main thing, and if we forget the main thing anything else sooner or later leaves us empty and wanting.

Being concerned about remembering the mission is a call to live in community. We must put ourselves around other believers that will hold us accountable to stay focused on authentic Christianity and the mission of Jesus in our lives. We all need help from other people to stay on track, and we believe this is one of the biblical responsibilities of the Church. It is our job as the church leadership of conVerge to make sure that our teaching is infused with reminders of the mission. If you attend conVerge and are actively involved in what we are doing here, you won’t be able to avoid being confronted with the mission of Jesus, or we are not fulfilling our biblical responsibility. That is our commitment, and remembering the mission is the first step towards forming a plan.

We must continually, stubbornly, and fanatically help each other “Remember the Mission!”

“Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. I think it is right, as long as I am in the body, to stir you up by way of reminder,... ” 2 Peter 1:12-13; emphasis ours
